Petal GeckoView 158

A browser that respects your attention, privacy, and device.

Petal breaks free from the Chromium monopoly. Built natively on Mozilla's GeckoView 158 engine with Jetpack Compose Material 3 Expressive, delivering quantum rendering, 35 adaptive polygon shapes, and authentic zero telemetry.

Engineered to be the anti-Chromium.

Most Android browsers are repackaged Chromium shells bundled with tracking services. Petal is an independent, native engineering achievement.

GeckoView 158 quantum pipeline

Petal does not delegate web rendering to the manufacturer's Android WebView. It bundles Mozilla's quantum engine with full multi-process isolation, native Firefox add-ons, and standards compliance.

  • Standalone engine
  • Firefox Add-ons (AMO)
  • Quantum multi-process

Zero telemetry by construction

Privacy is not a toggle in a submenu. Petal bundles zero analytics SDKs, zero telemetry endpoints, and zero cloud reporting beacons. Strict Enhanced Tracking Protection is active on first launch.

  • No Google Firebase
  • No Sentry
  • Isolated cookie jars

Material 3 Expressive & AMOLED ladder

Crafted in Jetpack Compose 1.5 with 35 dynamic polygon shape tokens, predictive back gesture morphing, tactile waveform haptics, and true pitch-black surfaces (#000000) for OLED battery conservation.

  • Spring damping 0.75f
  • 35 shape tokens
  • Pure AMOLED black

Pure, live Liquid Glass

One sharp wallpaper, one shared frost and a lens at every edge. Panels refract whatever moves behind them while text and icons stay crisp. Change the background, opacity and sheen below, the same controls you get in Settings → Appearance → Liquid Glass UI.

  • Android 12+: real backdrop blur
  • Android 13+: lens refraction
  • Older: stronger tint fallback
  • No new dependencies

The 35 dynamic Material 3 Expressive shapes

Directly from PetalMaterialShapes.kt: every shortcut pill, dialog container, and FAB adapts across 35 mathematical geometries. Tap one and watch the shape spring into place.

mpvEx-inspired player with a wavy seekbar

As specified in PRD.md §3.3: an active sine-wave seekbar ripples while a video plays, then flattens the moment you pause or scrub.

Modular multi-process architecture

Explore how Petal stitches together Mozilla GeckoView C++ runtime bindings with modern Jetpack Compose Kotlin layers.

Independent Quantum Core

GeckoView 158 Standalone Engine

Petal embeds Mozilla GeckoView 158 with an isolated quantum multi-process pipeline. It does not use the OEM Android WebView, preventing vendor delays and third-party tracking hooks.
